Fall comes early to this part of Alaska. It's early September and already the leaves have changed to their autumn hue. The hint of winter is in the air as the first snow of the season has come and melted.
Arguable one of the most dramatic places for photography in Alaska, within a space of 10 miles the road from Valdez goes through a narrow pass, then up over 2800 feet to the Thompson Pass. Shot in fall this photo shows the quick transition from summer to winter.
Remnants of trees killed due to the earthquake of 1964. Vast tracks of lands uplifted or down-dropped during this quake, these trees were killed due to salt water intrusion as the land fell about 8 ft.
